In October 2024, an anonymous figure operating under the pseudonym "Missie Moustass" (Mauritian Creole for "Mr. Moustache") began releasing a series of clandestine audio recordings on platforms like TikTok. These recordings featured private conversations among prominent Mauritian politicians, journalists, civil society members, and foreign diplomats. The content of these leaks unveiled alleged misconduct and corruption within the government, including a notable instance where the police commissioner purportedly pressured a forensic doctor to alter a report concerning a death in police custody.
